Wiltshire Council is repairing the bus station carriageway, resurfacing the footway and installing new road markings to improve the bus station for passengers, as part of its £6m bus infrastructure project.
The bus station will be closed at the following times:
- Friday 5 June – from 7pm only
- Saturday 6 June – all day
- Sunday 7 June – all day
- Saturday 13 June – all day
- Sunday 14 June – all day
The bus station will remain open as usual outside of these times.
While the bus station is closed, alternative arrangements will be in place:
- Bus services 33/X33 to Devizes, X34 to Trowbridge and Frome, 44P to Pewsham Estate and 55 to Calne and Swindon will pick up outside Rivo Lounge, next to the Town Bridge.
- All other services that normally use the bus station will pick up from Town Bridge bus stops opposite Grounded Café.
- Passengers who usually use stops on The Causeway can catch services 33, X33, 44P and 55 from London Road.
- Bus stops on Gladstone Road and The Causeway will also be out of use during these periods.
Passengers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys and check with their bus operator for the latest service information.
Cllr Martin Smith, Cabinet Member for Highways, said: “We understand that closing the bus station, even for a short time, will be inconvenient for passengers and local businesses, and we would like to thank people for their patience while we make these improvements.
“These improvements are important to ensure the bus station remains safe, accessible and fit for the future.
“We have planned the work over two weekends to minimise disruption and have put in place clear alternative stopping arrangements so services can continue to run throughout.
“We look forward to the newly improved bus station being completed later in June.”
